Grand Stafford Theater proudly presents our 2-Year Anniversary Free First Friday Concert featuring long time friends of the venue: QUIET COMPANY, FEATHERFACE, GATLIN ELMS, THE LONELY HUNTER, LINDSAY HARRIS & THE FEEBLE CONTENDERS.

QUIET COMPANY

The Austin, TX band, Quiet Company has been making a name for themselves nationally for their energetic live shows and their anthemic, dynamic, indie-rock — which critics have called a mix of The Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, Arcade Fire & Weezer — with attention from the likes of the NY Times, Paste Magazine, NPR (Top 5 Bands to See at SXSW), Last Call with Carson Daly, Houston Chronicle, Austin Chronicle and more. During SXSW 2012, Quiet Company won 10 Austin Music Awards including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, Rock Band of the Year, Indie Band of the Year and Song of the Year. After the success of their 2013 album re-release, A Dead Man on My Back: Shine Honesty Revisited, the band was chosen to be a Red Bull Sound Select Artist. After an amazing year on the road with festivals including NXNE, CMJ, ACL Fest and more, the band is excited to be back home in Austin recording their highly anticipated new full-length, Transgressor, which will be released Summer 2014.

GATLIN ELMS

Mixing alternative with folk, Gatlin Elms has emerged on the indie scene with their debut album, Carry Me Home. After much anticipation and two years of trial and error, the band has truly realized their passions through the release. According to Elms (writer and front-man), “[The album] focuses on searching yourself and dealing with the nasty parts of life and its struggles.”
Gatlin Elms is from Houston, TX and started in 2008 with singer/songwriter Gatlin Elms, Carry Me Home is the latest release for the band and was released on October 10, 2010.

THE LONELY HUNTER

After a couple years, a couple name changes and a few lineup adjustments, central Texas-based alternative rock band Lonely Hunter — formerly known as The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter — is back at it again. After a successful tour in support of the band’s original self-titled EP in 2011, life’s little things caught up with the band, and marriage, school, graduation and work teamed up to throw the band in a temporary hiatus. But now, Lonely Hunter is ready to shake off the dust and hit the road again with brand new tunes and their new EP, When Winter Comes, with the help of M.D. Thompson and Ivory Tower Realizations.

“After close to a year of making music and recording demos, we felt we needed to release an album,” says bassist Jacob Massey. “We felt it necessary for two main reasons: First, it had been over two years since our previous release and we were still playing the same songs at every set. We needed new material. Secondly, we were and are actively trying to adjust our sound in a newer direction.”

The band now consists of vocalist/guitarist Collin Brewer, guitarist Tyler Kern, bassist Jacob Massey and drummer Austin Laskowski. Although they have dealt with a few lineup changes, Lonely Hunter is ready to buckle down and release a full-length album very soon. “There’s a process of learning to be a band again that comes with new musicians — everyone has different styles and sensibilities,” says Massey. “We wanted to make a full-length record and talked for awhile about how it ought to sound and feel. It’s important to us for our albums to maintain a sense of unity front to back, both in sound and content. The Resolution EP [2010] is all about a particularly devastating breakup and both the fallout and rebuilding therein, Lonely Hunter EP [2011] deals very much with isolation and the hope and desire for connection.”

When Winter Comes consists of brand new music that the band is very proud of and believes representative of who they are as a band now, transitioning the listener onto a whole new direction. The first track, “Dry Land,” will feel very familiar to a Lonely Hunter fan. As it progresses to “Rest,” “Not Coming Down,” and finally, the title track, “When Winter Comes,” any listener will be able to hear and feel the music change within them. “Dry Land” might feel comfortable for Lonely Hunter, but the band believes “Not Coming Down” will make a fan pause and think this new direction is totally worthwhile and will appeal to any listener, old and new alike.

Lonely Hunter has shared the stage with artists like The Rocket Summer, Lovedrug, David Ramirez, The Rocketboys, Ivoryline and The Canvas Waiting and have performed in multiple showcases with SXSW and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The band has also played multiple sold-out shows at the Grand Stafford Theater.

LINDSAY HARRIS

For Lindsay Harris, performing and making music is a conversation and a way to connect with many people at once. Her influences of choice are jazz, folk and pop and her inspirations are you; you just may or may not know it yet. Nationally recognized by organizations such as AT&T and Nabisco, Lindsay is an up-and-coming Central Texas weekend favorite, but she’s only just getting started. She’s new, she’s fresh and a straight up player when it comes to great music. So let her be the first to strike up the conversation, and then try to tell us she’s not keeping you rockin’ and coming back for more.
