“The Man Who Mends Women”

October 26, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Center on Conflict and Development at Texas A&M University (ConDev), the George Bush School Of Government and Public Service’s Women, Peace, and Security Program, and the Texas A&M School of Public Health will be screening “The Man Who Mends Women” at the Grand Stafford Theater October 26th.

This film follows the story of three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Denis Mukwege, who has treated thousands of women raped during the 20 years of conflicts in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

After the screening, we will host a special guest to speak more intimately on the film’s themes and provide insights to the work of Dr. Mukwege’s foundation. For anyone interested in human rights, public health, and development, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

Come learn about the challenges facing women in the DRC, and the physician working to bring peace and safety to Africa’s Great Lakes region.

Doors open at 5:30. Film starts at 6pm.

About the Center for Conflict and Development
In 2010, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation Chair on Conflict and Development was established at Texas A&M University to support teaching, research, and service for the advancement of the welfare of communities enduring conflict or emerging from conflict. In November 2011, Texas A&M University was selected as a member of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN). Among approximately 500 applicants, USAID chose Texas A&M University to address the lingering, complex challenges at the intersection of conflict and development.
