KEOS LoneStar Music Series Presents Walt Wilkins & Tina Mitchell Wilkins with Ben Morris & The Great American Boxcar Chorus
June 24, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
KEOS 89. 1 FM LoneStar Music Series
KEOS kicked off the Lone Star Music Series last year with a concert by Sam Baker, Carrie Elkins, and Chip Dolan. The Lone Star Music Series promotes independent Texas music by featuring artists with deep Texas roots. In addition to providing our community with great concerts, the series also strives to educate the general public about Texas-based musicians, singers, and songwriters. KEOS is proud to partner with the Grand Stafford Theater in downtown Bryan again this year. The Lone Star Music Series is made possible in part through Hotel Tax Revenue funded from the City of College Station and the City of Bryan through the Arts Council of Brazos Valley.
Walt Wilkins
I am fortunate that I play my songs across a wide region that is filled with folks who find comfort, enjoyment & meaning in coming out to listen to folks like myself. I am fortunate that enough folks come out, generally, that I can come back to those places and play my songs again. I am lucky, I think, that I knew my calling at an early age, and at one point in my life, I took the necessary steps to follow that calling out into the world. I am still learning how to listen to, and stay true to the voice, and true to the work I am given. I try not to take myself too seriously, but I do try to take seriously this work; this calling. I play some nights just me and my guitar, and some nights with my talented and funny wife, Tina. And some nights with the The Mystiqueros, a living art collective, a hill country jukebox, one of the bands on the bill in honky-tonk heaven. I drive, I play, I sleep and dream. I have had a fair share of songs recorded by other folks, which was my dream all along, and I have played shows with heroes & real poets & the deepest of cats. But I live for the gig tonight, and tomorrow. I am fortunate… and I hope to see you down this road.
Tina Mitchell Wilkins
Tina has become a highly-regarded songwriter and performer in her most recent home of Texas, where she plays solo, with her husband Walt Wilkins, or when she’s the beautiful, vivacious “chick singer” of the Mystiqueros.
Ben Morris and the Great American Boxcar Chorus
Ben Morris & the Great American Boxcar Chorus – a long name, but it’s one worth remembering – are still in the early years of their collective musical mission, but they’ve already made their way around Texas with the scrappy grace of a young band that will go to any length to make themselves heard. With over a hundred and fifty full-band gigs already under their belt, and with their first proper full-band album (Underground Railroad, self-released) set for release in Spring 2009, the College Station-based band is looking to retrace their steps across the bars, music halls and festivals of the Lone Star State (and beyond) while blazing new trails, winning over new fans as they introduce a new set of tunes and ideas to the world.
