First Friday Featuring The Landon Evans Band With The New Offenders and The Cover Letter
October 7, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The Landon Evans Band
The Landon Evans Band was formed in 2014 in College Station, TX by students at Texas A&M University. The first live performance experience for most of the group, they soon developed a passion for the music that drove them to hone their craft and gig relentlessly in local biker bars, dance halls, dives, and anywhere their music could be shared. What they lacked in experience they made up for in enthusiasm, and it wasn’t long before crowds were enamored by this young group of musicians with talent beyond their age.
Now in their second year, LEB has found a style that many true country music fans long for: tradition honky-tonk sounds with the energy and excitement of a group of young men eager to bring their own flare to honky tonk crowds across the state. Influenced by the likes of classic cowboy music heroes such as Merle Haggard, Chris LeDoux, and George Strait with a generous helping of the Texas flair present in their contemporaries Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Aaron Watson, and the Cody Johnson Band, this group is taking their music on the road and soon the radio. After completing their debut recording with Tate Music in Oklahoma City early in 2015, the album released in October 2016 to audiences eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the band’s fast rising story.
A Houston-based, southern roots/rock band, The New Offenders was formed in August of 2014. Although there were a few renditions of this band in the years before, 2014 was the year the band solidified it’s line up and took to the streets.
With this new lineup being more collaborative in musical arrangements and songwriting, in August of 2014 the band decided to change the name from ‘Hunter McKithan and the Offenders’ to simply ‘The New Offenders.’ With the new members and a reinvigorated attitude, the band set out to record it’s debut album “Stones to Throw” in December 2014 in Austin, Texas at 512 Studios with producer Omar Vallejo. With influences spanning from guitar greats such as Warren Haynes, Anders Osborne and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers to songwriters among the likes of Ryan Adams, Ben Harper and Jack White, this project promises to be of the eclectic variety.
The Cover Letter
With the energy of a house party, The Cover Letter began forging their name in the Austin music scene in 2013, quickly becoming known for their multi-instrumentation, constant movement and love of performing. Blending an old-fashioned Americana sound with modern indie melodies, The Cover Letter takes folk and twists it into something new, yet, somehow, nostalgic.
Members Jacob Shipman, Chelsea Barbo, Jarrod Nall, Johnni Roache, and Trevor Van Stanfield all feed off each other’s individual styles, which has allowed them to create a unique mix of sounds. Keep an eye out for their 2nd EP coming in early 2017.
