Paper Route w/ Valise & Scientist

December 8, 2012 @ 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

PAPER ROUTE

Here’s the situation. In Nashville, there’s an old, decrepit plantation house where three bedraggled but refined, white gentlemen drop beats, craft wordplay, design artwork, and arrange orchestral maneuvers in the dark. The structure is called Joy Mansion, and the men who dwell there staring each other down and exercising their creative rivalry for all it’s worth collaborate under the moniker of Paper Route. Having toured relentlessly with the likes of Passion Pit and mewithoutyou, won hearts and minds with their debut album Absence (2009), paid musical tribute to Lou Reed to the man’s imperturbable face at South by Southwest, and insinuated themselves into pop culture consciousness when their song, “The Music,” appeared in the film (500) Days of Summer, Paper Route have now seen fit to go for broke on the possibility that epic earnestness, lyrical depth, and poetic heft can all coincide within one ridiculously catchy song collection primarily preoccupied with—wait for it–tragedy, disappointment, and loss. Behold The Peace of Wild Things.

VALISE

Formed in 2010, Valise has quickly risen to become a prominent indie-rock band in the Dallas area. With influences like Circa Survive, Mew, and As Tall As Lions, Valise puts a fresh spin on a familiar genre to create a sound uniquely their own. Their debut “Dreamcatcher EP”, recorded at The Vanguard Room in Lakeland, FL, was released in Summer 2011, and earned them both regional and national attention. Valise will begin touring early next year, followed up by a full-length record in the Fall.

SCIENTIST

Scientist is from deep in the heart of Texas. In early 2011, Brandon DuBois and Jesse Schaefer began writing their debut, World EP. Produced by grammy nominated band, After Edmund, the band recorded the five song EP over the course of twelve months. Inspired by The Killers and Passion Pit, the record consists of five songs that are pop rock to the core and wrapped with an electronic bow.

Scientist is constantly in The Lab working on new videos and responses to The Experiment, a feature where people submit cover videos of Scientist songs, and in return, Scientist covers one of theirs. Along with that, nerd glasses and pocket protectors are given out at every show, and anyone who tags Scientist in a nerdy picture will end up on the website.

The Scientist boys can be found in the Mobile Lab on tour promoting World EP with their captivating live show, complete with instrument switches, electronic breaks, and crowd participation.
