Race To The Moon
Race to the Moon, based in Houston, TX, draws on its punk and indie rock influences to create driving, sophisticated music. Four recent transplants to the Houston area joined forces with a shared love of Wilco, Dinosaur Jr., and high energy live performance to create a charging rock and roll band. Race to the Moon started its journey in June 2012 and is gaining steam, bringing a boost of punk rock energy and dynamic songwriting into the local Houston indie scene. Their first EP is set to be released in July 2013.
Almost Handsome
The beginnings of what would become ‘Almost Handsome’ may have started in the swamps of New Orleans. During an ‘alternative’ spring break of sorts James Hoelscher and Will Sullivan met and by some phantom grace found friendship and understanding in music. During their week stay at Loyola James and Will formed tentative plans to play music together, or as James would have it ‘start the revolution’ in Aggieland, Bryan/College Station, Texas. Alex Arispe was shortly thereafter tapped to play drums. Things quickly came together and an indie rock trio was formed. Now forcing their way into your heart through your ears, no sense in fighting it, people all get ready…
Mike The Engineer
Mike The Engineer was created in tribute to the Mike that is inside of all of us. Formed in the summer of 2011, Mike The Engineer is a band from Bryan by way of San Antonio and Midland who strive to create fun fuzz punk songs which incorporate everything from The Beach Boys to The Ramones to WAVVES. They can often be spotted making people dance in Bryan, have played at Loud!Fest in 2011 and 2012, and have also performed in Houston and Victoria.
Bachelor Police
When members from local legends Almost Handsome and Fistful Öf Dollars decided to join forces during the summer of 2010, people told them they were nuts. How would they even practice without it ending in a fist fight? But alas, these musicians have created a sound that is both fun and rockin’. If you’re in need of a good time, call the Bachelor Police.
Golden Sombrero
Golden Sombrero is a newer member of the Bryan/College Station scene, having been in existence since July 2012. Comprised of musicians from other area bands such as The Ex-Optimists, Pearl Light Specials, and Bachelor Police, this group has a classic four-piece lineup and mixes the style of roots rock with the energy of garage. They have played in both of the twin cities at venues such as Revolution Café and Bar and Zapatos.
