Seryn w/ Foreign Fields & Julia Sinclair

November 10, 2012 @ 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

SERYN

Seryn is a 5 piece band who calls Denton, Texas their home. When listening to the well layered textures of guitars, ukulele, accordion, bass, viola, banjo and various percussion, it’s hard to imagine This Is Where We Are is the band’s debut effort. The band’s strength resides in their vast musical talent and understanding of dynamics. Their beauty is gracefully displayed through chilling harmonies. Each member and their voice carry the same importance. One is not complete without the other. It is in this craft that the young band shines so bright. It has earned them a sound that isn’t easily defined, but still proven triumphant. What may first appear as straight folk songs, later transcend into menacing walls of sound. The term “Folk-Pop” has been thrown around and maybe it loosely fits, but we will leave the definitions up to you.

FOREIGN FIELDS

Foreign Fields is an electronic folk group that hails from the wintry plains of Wisconsin. New Years day of 2011 they met in their hometown, in an abandoned office building, to begin work on their first full length LP “Anywhere But Where I Am”. Having no set plan or guide, the album grew naturally as they left their lives in the north for the rivers of Tennessee. Days after self-releasing on Bandcamp in January 2012, the album began to catch the attention of notable tastemaker blogs and worldwide critics alike. “Stumbling upon an album as good as this duo’s debut LP is not the kind of luck that happens every day. Eric Hillman and Brian Holl’s music has the depth of a deep green lake, one you watch through the seasons; from summer swimming to frozen white. The richness here is full and deep, and you should find a good long book and a quiet corner and listen to the entirety of this record over and over with headphones and a pot of hot tea.” — YVYNYL “I cannot wait for the world to discover this album: beautiful, romantic, simple, sweet, intelligent. We overuse this phrase but this is truly a gift for your ears, an escape into something deeply wedged into the beauty of calm. It’s the type of album you’d think you’d fall asleep to, but in a way it really awakens you, to absorb the words and to feel the emotion as they, themselves work through them. This album will haunt you for the rest of your life.” — The FiveThreeSix

JULIA SINCLAIR

Julia Sinclair is an award-winning classically trained guitarist turned singer-songwriter hailing from the Adirondack region of upstate New York. Having toured and performed with national acts Ingrid Michaelson, Graham Colton, and Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill) among others, she has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most promising talents from the emerging world of singer-songwriters. Born out of the age of the internet, it wasn’t long before the music industry began to take interest from her early material that she posted online. Inadvertently, Julia was approached by powerhouse producers and songwriters including Babyface (Kenneth Edmunds) and Rodney Jerkins. She recently recorded an acoustic EP at Dave Matthews Band’s Haunted Hollow Studio in Charlottesville, VA and made the move to Nashville, TN where she will begin to work on her debut album for ATO Records. She cites influences including John Mayer, KT Tustall, Jason Mraz, and Imogen Heap.
