About the Documentary
The HMC Project is a short documentary film about the faces behind the Hispaniola Medical Charity. In the summer of 2015 the filmmakers traveled to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic with the surgical mission team to capture their motivation, their journey, the impact and the needs of the charity.

About the Filmmakers
UptownWorkNYC is a production company co-founded by NYC artists Mandie Black and Daniela Hart that seeks to tell meaningful stories in various ways. We teamed up with filmmaker Anthony Ricciardi to document and share the work of this inspiring organization. Daniela is the daughter of Dr. Umbert and Laura Hart of Hispaniola Medical Charity.

The evening benefits Hispaniola Medical Charity whose mission is to provide medical, surgical and dental care to the impoverished people on the island of Hispaniola, the home of Haiti on the west and the Dominican Republic on the East. We are accomplishing this through surgical and dental missions, education, medical school scholarships and procurement of supplies and equipment, but we have only just begun. The Hispaniola Medical Charity was formed in 2012 by two UTMB alumni, Dr. Dennis Gore, a General Surgeon on faculty at UTMB, Galveston and Dr. Umbert Hart, an Anesthesiologist in Bryan, TX, in memory of Dr. Hart’s father who was a surgeon from the Dominican Republic.
