Kopecky Family Band w/ Scientist & Evan P. Donohue

June 4, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

KOPECKY FAMILY BAND

Like all families, Kopecky Family Band beats with the same heart and writes in the same blood. ‘The Family’ began creating music together in Nashville, Tennessee in the Fall of 2007. What began as late night talks about life and dreams gradually flowed into eccentric and beautiful music that has led to numerous tours, including adventures to CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo, three EP releases and friendships across the country.

Leading the family are singers Gabe and Kelsey, along with Steven (lead guitar), Corey (bass), Markus (cello), and David (drums). The music is emotive, and evokes raw honesty and vulnerability, whilst capturing your attention through its unmistakable power and presence. The sounds created by the booming and orchestral-like 6-piece challenge the listener’s ear while still offering sweet melodies to sing along with.

Early 2012 finally meant a break in the band’s relentless touring schedule, and the chance to get away to work on their debut full-length album, which had already begun with ideas and songs being hatched whilst on the road. After a co-headlining tour with The Lumineers in April, the family once again bunkered down to put the finishing touches on the album. The result is Kids Raising Kids, a culmination of 5 years of hard work shared amongst friends, family, and fans. The album is due out later this year.

Never the types to sit still, Camp Kopecky play their first Lollapalooza in August and will then head to Austin for ACL in October. There’s indeed a lot on the horizon for this party of 6. There’s never a dull moment when you’re #PartoftheFamily.

SCIENTIST

Scientist is from deep in the heart of Texas. In early 2011, Brandon DuBois and Jesse Schaefer began writing their debut, World EP. Produced by grammy nominated band, After Edmund, the band recorded the five song EP over the course of twelve months. Inspired by The Killers and Passion Pit, the record consists of five songs that are pop rock to the core and wrapped with an electronic bow.

Scientist is constantly in The Lab working on new videos and responses to The Experiment, a feature where people submit cover videos of Scientist songs, and in return, Scientist covers one of theirs. Along with that, nerd glasses and pocket protectors are given out at every show, and anyone who tags Scientist in a nerdy picture will end up on the website.

The Scientist boys can be found in the Mobile Lab on tour promoting World EP with their captivating live show, complete with instrument switches, electronic breaks, and crowd participation.

EVAN P. DONOHUE

“The most immediate comparison one is likely to make in describing fresh-faced local power-popper Evan P. Donohue is to Elvis Costello. And the reason isn’t just the glasses. Like the early material of the bespectacled king of brainy geek-rock, Donohue’s songs are literate hyper-pop anthems for the brokenhearted. The biggest difference is that where Costello espoused a palpable anger and bravado in his songwriting, Donohue has a carefree air of romanticism to his lovelorn pining. Fans of nervy awk-rock from favorites of the Stiff Records catalog to pre-Y2K Weezer should take notice.” – Nashville Scene
