Texas Music Pickers is known for their exceptional ability to scope out the latest up-and-coming Texas artists, and their next showcase is no exception. As part of their singer/songwriter series, Haley Cole & Josh Grider will be performing at the Grand Stafford on Friday, August 28 at 8:00 pm.

Haley Cole, a soulful singer whose lyrics hold more truth and power than nearly anything on the market today, began dabbling in music at a very young age and found solace in it when she went through a hard time in her life as a teen. Her magnetism on stage and her ability to hold an audience spellbound is the natural harvest of years spent singing spirituals with her family at church gatherings and small revivals surrounding her tiny hometown of Birch Creek, Texas. There she witnessed the magic that moves in music and felt its healing power for the first time. Her latest album, Illusions, was released in January 2015 and is available on iTunes now.

Josh Grider, a major player in not only the Texas music scene but the country music scene nationwide, spent nearly a decade in the music business before getting his much-deserved big break. The Gettin’ There” would yield 3 number one songs on the Texas Regional Radio Report, and 2 number one songs on the Texas Music Chart for Josh.  In November 2013 he carried that momentum into the studio with producer Trent Willmon to record 2014’s full length album “Luck & Desire”. Josh’s album is available on iTunes now.

Haley Cole & Josh Grider will be performing at The Grand Stafford on Friday, August 28. Doors open at 7:00 and the show begins at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $8 on the Grand Stafford website. Tables for 4 and 10 are also available.

The Grand Stafford Welcomes Odd Folks on August 16

One would be hard pressed to find a name fit that fits a band more perfectly than Odd Folks does. Playing off of their name, the band purposefully stays away from fitting into a single genre and uses this fluidity to explore any and every genre they find interesting.

The end result of this sort of freedom results in a band who’s fascinatingly eclectic without any effort. It’s an energy that one can’t help but be drawn to and want to hear more from, and that sentiment is reflected with the following the band has gained over the years.

Odd Folks is a local 5-piece band from College Station, TX that consists of musicians that met at A&M. Self-described as a mix of punk, indie and post-hardcore rock, they pride themselves on being different not only with their unique sound, but with the intimacy with which they conduct their shows.

If you’re looking for a good time out, this is not a band to miss. Their unique sound ensures there is something for everyone, and the personalities of the musicians are such that you are certain to have a good time watching them.

Odd Folks will be playing at the Stafford on August 16, 2015 8:00 pm. Doors open at 7:00 pm. To stay-up-to-date with the band, check them out on Facebook here or preview their music on their bandcamp here.

August First Friday Featuring Taylor & The Wild Now

maxresdefault

Taylor & The Wild Now are the kind of people you want to be your best friends. Between the quirky guitar sounds and Taylor’s soulful voice to the fact that her boxer dog is almost always at her side, they’re real and talented with a laid-back-sort-of-cool that’s rare to find in so many artists nowadays.

They have a sound that’s akin to that of indie bands like the Alabama Shakes, Local Natives, Chet Faker, and the Bahamas with distinctly beachy vibes. Taylor’s soulful voice is a stark contrast to the upbeat indie guitar, but blends perfectly to create a sound that’s distinct yet familiar all the same.

Unknown

Their first EP was released in August 2014 and their new single “Salt” was released in June 2015. Be sure to catch this band live now because they are destined to become indie’s next big name.

The Austin natives will be playing at the Grand Stafford Theater on August 7 at 8:00 pm for First Friday in Downtown Bryan. Tickets are on sale on the Grand Stafford website. For more information, check out the Grand Stafford Facebook page here or Taylor & The Wild Now’s website here.

Local Singer-Songwriter Landon McGee & Friends To Perform At Grand Stafford Theater

WebFeaturedImage-Landon

Landon McGee may not be a household name yet, but he most certainly will be in the future.

His vocals have an acute precision that seem to melt perfectly into the gorgeous notes humming from his guitar. His lyrics are poetry that can only be appreciated more and more the closer you listen.

Landon McGee, upcoming performer at the Grand Stafford, is a singer-songwriter from Central Texas currently attending Baylor. He is influenced by eclectic indie-folk and his music is reminiscent of folk king John Denver and the experimental indie pioneer Sufjan Stevens.  He recently released his EP entitled “Kite” in March.

Landon is the pioneer in a new adventure we have here at Grand Stafford Theater, which is the brand new musician-in-residency program from AdventGX. Modeled after artist-in-residency program, the purpose of the program is to bring in a musician and focus on networking and business along with building personal and professional development. Musicians are provided film footage, show opportunities, marketing help, and more. Because this is a new venture, details are still being worked out to ensure the most successful program possible. AdventGX hopes to open applications for future musicians-in-residence applicants in the fall. If you are interested in knowing more about the program, please contact us.

Landon will be performing on July 31 at 8:00 pm with doors opening at 7:00 pm. The event will be sponsored by Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee, an Austin-based coffee company focused on the right blend of high quality, perfectly roasted beans. The first 100 people to arrive at the event with a ticket purchased through the Grand Stafford Theater website ONLY will receive a free bottle of ready-to-drink coffee. Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee will be served throughout the night along with handcrafted cocktails using the brew.

Texas Music Pickers Songwriter Series – Erick Willis and Christopher Crow

Texas Music Pickers, known for bringing in the latest up-and-coming artists from the Texas music scene, is featuring two incredible artists at the Grand Stafford Theater!

The first artist, Erick Willis, a rocker who got his start in singing in church, artfully blends the two genres together to form “soulful melodic lyrics, with the deep groove of roots-rock and as his lyric says, ‘with some of the harder stuff.'” With two EP’s and a full album under his belt, Willis has taken the Texas music scene by storm.

The second artist, Christopher Crow, fits in perfectly with his unique style of blues. His gravely voice croons along as he strums out foot-tapping beats. Influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, and the Black Keys, he pulls together different elements from all three and creates art that’s captivating to his audience.

Clap and AoA – A Night of Latin Blues

CLAPAoA-web-art

Rarely does a group of musicians have the ability to blend two seemingly different genres together to create one unified, harmonious sound.

Even more rare is when those two sounds are blues and Spanish rock.

CLAP and Affection on Apartments, two bands that will be playing at the Grand Stafford on Thursday, July 16 at 8:00 pm, are examples of such rarity. The show will be a unique experience for any listener, not only because the sound is something completely different than anything out on the radio today, but because these bands come together for the soul purpose of performing an art they love before parting their separate ways. The fluidity of the band members means that each performance is unique and you can be sure you’re witnessing something special.

If that wasn’t enough reason to spend your Thursday evening with these talented musicians, all proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to the Brazos Valley Food Bank. You can purchase tickets on the Grand Stafford Website, available now.

Want a taste of what you’ll be in for on July 16? You can check out this clip of CLAP performing here.
